The campaign is led by the National Cyber Security Alliance and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since its inception in October of 2004, Cyber Security Awareness Month has engaged individuals, small businesses, corporations, educational institutions, and government agencies in cybersecurity awareness and prevention. Each October, participating organizations work to promote the importance of cybersecurity through events, outreach, and education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This event is mainly dedicated to encouraging people to learn more about online safety and security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This includes learning how to protect their personal information, how to spot scams, and how to stay safe when using the internet. API security is an important part of this, as APIs can be used to access sensitive data or perform actions that could put people at risk. By increasing awareness of API security risks and how to mitigate them, we can help keep everyone safe online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"htoc-see-yourself-in-cyber\">See Yourself in Cyber<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This year\u2019s campaign theme \u2014 <strong>&#8220;See Yourself in Cyber&#8221;<\/strong> \u2014 demonstrates that while cybersecurity may seem like a complex subject, ultimately, it\u2019s really all about people. This October will focus on the \u2018people\u2019 side of cybersecurity and how they can play a role in protecting themselves and others online. The campaign<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It provides resources on topics such as online privacy, security, and anti-phishing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, the initiative is meant to encourage more people to consider careers in cybersecurity. It highlights the many opportunities available in the field and provides resources for those interested in pursuing a cybersecurity career. For example,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The campaign features a series of short videos that showcase the work of DHS employees and their partners in the cybersecurity community. The videos provide a realistic view of the work that cybersecurity professionals do and the challenges they face. They also highlight the importance of collaboration and teamwork in the cybersecurity field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"htoc-4-things-you-can-do\">4 Things You Can Do<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cisa.gov\/cybersecurity-awareness-month\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">cybersecurity &amp; infrastructure security agency<\/a>, there are four steps everyone should take:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Think Before You Click: Detect and Report Phishing:<\/strong> If a link looks a little off, think before you click. It could be an attempt to get sensitive information or install malware.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Update Your Software:<\/strong> Don&#8217;t delay\u2014 If you see a software update notification, act promptly. Better yet, turn on automatic updates.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Using Strong Passwords:<\/strong> Use passwords that are long, unique, and randomly generated. Use password managers to generate and remember different, complex passwords for each of your accounts. A password manager will encrypt passwords, securing them for you!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Enable Multi-Factor Authentication:<\/strong> You need more than a password to protect your online accounts, and <strong>enabling MFA makes you significantly less likely to get hacked.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"htoc-want-to-be-involved\">Want to be involved?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to the steps outlined above, there are a few other ways you can participate in Cyber Security Awareness Month, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>participate in National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM) events and activities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Educating yourself and others about online security and safety is vital. This can be done through blog posts, social media, articles, and even in-person workshops and presentations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Improving your own online security habits This includes ,as we mentioned, things like using strong passwords, updating your software, and backing up your data.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Keeping yourself up-to-date on the latest security threats and how to protect yourself against them is key. This can be done by following news sources and online security blogs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>report any security incidents or suspicious activity to the proper authorities. This helps to keep everyone safe and can help to prevent future attacks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"htoc-in-conclusion\">In conclusion<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Everyone can make a difference during Cybersecurity Awareness Month.
